Tony and Shannon - Married!
2010-06-29Shannon and Tony were married a couple of weeks ago in an amazing outdoor ceremony. Tiffany (our second shooter and office manager) was able to shoot with me so that Kristin could be at home with the boys for the day. It was toasty outside, but with plenty of shade and happy guests it was ideal. The aspect of their wedding that most presented itself to everyone there was a sense of fun. Tony was the life of the party and Shannon was joyfully sharing that fun with him. It was a great time as you shall see.

From my experience with Tony he seemed like a humorous fellow, as well as a tough individual - so to catch him crying as his bride approached was certainly a delight. When I am able to "catch the moment" like that I like to think of myself as a mighty hunter in our digital age...only for a minute though.

The location was the best!

The ringbearers actually stood up front for the whole ceremony - I was impressed - and Tiffany and I got to catch them at some great times.

Although Tony was the primary football fan of the couple - Shannon was all about showing her skills.

To say that Tony was a funny guy would be an understatement - you can see in Shannon's face how he makes her laugh along with most everyone else around.

This is the first time I have witnessed the best man carrying the groom.

I love this next one.

I wanted everyone to notice the shoes to the bottom left. At the beginning of the day they were spotless and here they had a few scuffs on them. I could have cleaned them up in photoshop, but they reminded me of how marriage actually is. I have been married for 8 years now - I found that you will get your "shoes dirty" with the activities of life, but if you still remember "I do" the scuffs will not matter.

This next guy was just too nutty not to include.

There was a little bit of a Martini theme - so everyone was having a bit of fun with it.

But when you mix a martini theme with actual martinis the results can be dangerous!

Robert and Sarah - Married!
2010-06-25Robert and Sarah were married a couple weeks back, and we were there to take a few pictures (well, a lot of pictures). The forecast called for thunderstorms, and the clouds were ominous. However, we managed to shoot outside just enough to "enjoy" the heat as well as get some beautiful pics in both Oberlin and Cleveland. The reception was at the courthouse and it looked beautiful. Though I have shot at the courthouse before, this was my first reception and I would love to shoot one again. Robert and Sarah were a pleasure to work with and the day was truly a joy.

This next shot was Kristin's idea - it is one of my favs of the day.

Sarah was not a total goofball during our time with them, but when she did get silly it was good stuff. This next one is great!

Kristin always get great angles (like this next shot) while I am shooting from a different perspective. After the wedding I always wish I had some of these shots myself - but having both of us together shooting produces so much more. It is nice having both.

This ivy-covered wall was superb.

danny:
the city street shot is really cool!!
Jesse:
I just shot here this weekend. What a great venue for a Cleveland Wedding.
Tiffany:
LOVE the photo of the guys with the baby!! Awesome. And Kristin's shot of the bride and groom by the ivy is absolutely beautiful! Great job you guys!

Aaron + Leah Married!
2010-06-21I was really excited to shoot this wedding since it was my first of the season, and it did not disappoint. David and I had a great time hanging out with Leah and Aaron's friends and family. What an amazing group of people! Leah was one of the most calm brides I have ever worked with, which made my job quite easy! And when the weather decided to be less than ideal, Leah and Aaron simply improvised and made a pit stop at Target to buy umbrellas for the shoot at the park.
After shooting a bit at Lakewood park and downtown Cleveland (spontaneously), we headed over to Rocky River where they had a fun reception planned with great music and dancing all night. I should also mention that it was definitely the first wedding I've been to where tacos were served as the main course. I later found out that Aaron is fluent in spanish and he LOVES tacos, so why not serve them at your wedding?! It was unique and I loved it.
Look at this amazing ring shot David got!

Bubbles!

This wedding party was a blast to work with. They had lots of creative ideas for photos which made for a really fun afternoon!

I really loved what was written on this page of their guest book.

Megan +Dan+ Rain Storm + Outdoor Wedding = Awesome
2010-06-18I have been pretty excited to post this blog entry. Almost two weeks ago Kristin and I had an outdoor wedding to shoot. I love outdoor weddings. It allows me plenty of freedom as a photographer during the ceremony, and the settings are usually top notch. So needless to say I was excited. However, the scariest thing about an outdoor wedding in Northeast Ohio is the potential for rain. As you will see in the pics, that which was feared came to be. It not only rained, it was an all out storm right at the time of the ceremony. You would assume that Dan, and especially Megan, would be crushed that the weather did not cooperate. When Megan stepped out of the car to walk down the soaking wet aisle, she began to cry. I assumed that she was down about the weather, but what I heard next made the whole experience worth it. She told one of her maids that she was "So happy!" Most brides are not overly stressed like people assume, but this joy in spite of the circumstances was so stunning to me that it didn't matter if the right side of my body was soaked and I was pinching an umbrella between by head and shoulder while I was attempting to shoot. If they were this happy, how could I not enjoy what I was witnessing. The rain did let up for a bit of shooting outside at the reception site. Overall it was an amazing time, and I believe that the weather might have helped. I learned once that trials do not simply build character, they expose it. Dan and Megan showed everyone on that day what they were made of, and it was terrific being apart of it.

The pic below to the right is one of my favorite pre-wedding bride shots I have done in a while. Kristin edited it with one of Jesse's custom photoshop actions.

I put the pic on the bottom left up so we can see how crazy the rain was.

Love the emotion on this next one.

Dan's undershirt he wore on his wedding day was the same one he wore the day they met.

Yes he actually, and randomly climbed the rafters of the covered bridge we escaped to.

This next one is my favorite of the day, and probably one of my favorites in a while. I hate to admit it, but I didn't know the maid of honor was walking by. It certainly made the shot.

Dan and Megan were going on and on about how great the cake was going to taste. I like wedding cake a little, but as a wedding photographer I am hard to impress. When I had a piece I had to admit it was amazing. I think the best I have ever had.

These next few shots are of a foot washing. If you are not familiar with this it comes from the life of Jesus. At the Last Supper, Jesus put a towel on and washed his disciples feet. It is an act of service and humility. It was an amazing time, and what made it even more special is that within ten minutes Megan and her dad were dancing to Poker Face by Lady Gaga. It was this lack of pretension that made everything so real that day.

We had to break the shirt out again.

I am not sure I have ever seen a bride get on the ground and play the air guitar in a barn while her groom bows before her. NICE!

Dawn :
Very nice pics Megan...Congrats Megan & Dan wish u the best of luck for many years to come:)
Elli:
Wow!! What an amazing memorable day!! Im so glad I could share it with you guys!!
Alice Craig:
A day cherished forever - even with or maybe in part because of the crazy rain. I like Mat
Emily:
These are amazing photos that captured every moment of the wedding. I was so glad to be invited as a guest because I was able to truly appreciate the overwhelming joy shared between Megan and Dan. Not even a hurricane could ruin their wedding day!
Bruce & Nancy:
Wow! These pictures are just showing a bit of the love and caring that Megan and Dan showed on their wedding day. Through the rain, their devotion to each other shone through. Great pictures!!
Tiffany:
Wow! You werent kidding Mat, you guys were really in a monsoon!! But these photos are absolutely beautiful! Such great emotion. I love them all.. I cant even pick a favorite!
Sally Clevenger:
What a treasure these pictures are! Since I couldnt be there, I got to laugh and cry as if I were at the ceremony. An awesome start to an awesome marriage!
Emily:
All these pictures are amazing! My favorite's the one in the backseat of the car, with the old fashioned look- love it! One can easily tell how in love they are!
Greg:
Great pictures.. and what awesome memories! I know you guys are going to have a wonderful life together!
Shannon:
Megan and Dan--
Your wedding was amazing and the pictures are absolutely beautiful! I love how the whole day and all of the emotions are captured. I can't wait to see all the rest of the photos! Congrats again!
Bill :
Outstanding photos...especially the kiss-in-the review-mirror-with-Maid of Honor-walking-by one. I liked the "ring-finger" one as well. I liked them ALL. Despite the rain, the ceremony and what I saw of the reception (prior to the ER visit for the cut hand) were beautiful. Delightful settings for both wedding and reception.
Unfortunately, Shannon and Dave do not have an umbrella policy....
Lorrie:
Oh my!!!! I laughed,I cried..amazing pics! So many favorites! Awesome day, awesome couple.
Karla:
You did a great job of capturing the atmosphere of the day. Such joy, fun, tenderness, love and beauty! This day had it all. Megan, you can't help but look amazing in every picture, because your inner and outer beauty shine all the time! Congratulations again!
Dave:
While the rain made the wedding "interesting" it was definitely the attitude and passion shown by Megan and Dan for each other that made it "memorable"! Great pictures capturing the day, though I'm missing the pictures of the great flower girl! (Sorry Megas, being her father makes me a little biased.) ;-)
Rachel Fairfax:
Wow, these pics are BEAUTIFUL! Although, it doesn't hurt that YOU are beautiful Megan. Not digging the one of me in the rain though... ) :
"DJ" Josh:
This is the most memorable wedding I have ever been to, or been a part of, and the pictures and simply awesome! They really help capture an awesome day!
Congrats Dan and Megan!!!
Keith:
WOW!!!! A Day that many of us will never forget, and now with these pictures, it will be much easier to hold on to the sights and feelings of the wedding, reception and the entire day. Megan and Dan look so much in love... which I think you two are!
Mike Simms:
Great pictures that capture the emotions of the day! Amazing work showing the love and fun that Dan and Megan have.
Marc & Sunita:
We really had a great time at the wedding. I just feel bad that my suit was a slightly different color of water logger than everyone else's. I am also hoping that the picture of the four people playing with the frisbee in the rain turned out well. Once again it was a great time and it really was awesome that the wedding went on in the rain.
Bob:
Congratulations again guys. It was a really great time and your photos came out looking terrific.
Noel:
Megan & Dan,
All of your pictures are amazing. I am so sorry that I missed your special day, I am glad I got to see a portion of what the day was like. These pictures are to be treasured you both look great in them. :)

Mathew and Kristin,
Can't begin to thank you for your professionalism, awesome talent, and complete and utter flexibility to shoot our daughter's wedding. I LOVE the pictures, the blog posting and comments you have made. As a parent, you always think your own child's wedding is something pretty special, but to hear you describe the day in your words, from your perspective, offers me yet another level of complete satisfaction. We are truly blessed to have had the experience.....making it a day none of us will EVER forget!!!

Brad and Brittany Married!
2010-06-16Anyone who follows this blog may be noticing the fact that the last shoots I have had have all been pretty amazing. I'm not bragging about the pictures. What is amazing to me is the stories and the emotion behind these shoots. I'm getting connected with some people that are really special. In a way it feels like purpose or destiny. With Brad and Brittany it was no different. The first thing I noticed when I arrived to shoot Brittany's preparation shots was the excitement and the joyful presence of her family. Her mom and her grandma and her aunt were all there at times and I could tell they were having so much fun. They were so pleasant to be around. Well little did I know that when I walked out to the ceremony I would run into a very familiar face. Brittany's mom, Mona had a brother - Uncle Rich. Uncle Rich had worked with me for about 4 years when I ran an interior design/flooring company. He became a good friend during that time, but neither of us had any idea I was shooting the wedding for his family. Coincidence..? maybe. I should have known because Brittany, her mom and grandma all had the same joyful demeanor I knew from Rich. Here are a few shots from the getting ready hour

As you can see, Brittany was a stunning bride.
Brad and his boys were equally ready.

Excitement was everywhere as the ceremony began...

Okay, this was a June 5 to remember. Not only was it Finest Moments busiest day of the year, it was also one of the rainiest wedding days I've seen in 6 years. We really wanted to do pictures at Oberlin College but the weather was a concern. Driving there my normally optimistic wedding mindset was being challenged. It was pouring the whole way until just before we pulled up behind the limo at Tappan Square. The rain stopped, the sky became brighter and we hurried out to try to get just a few before it started back up. Well it turns out that we could have as much time as we needed. For the 45 minutes we had, we enjoyed a wonderful temperature and a cloudy softbox with no rainfall. The result of this blessing is right here:

This is a long blog post, but I couldn't help it. Every wedding is more than an event, it is a story. It is a story with history behind it. It is a story of love, trust, adventure, risk, reward and family. That's a part of the reason we love shooting weddings. I enjoy telling the story with pictures and creating something of such great sentimental value that it will be passed on for generations. This wedding was a story I'm grateful to be a part of. The reception was a celebration of friends and family with lot's of dancing.

Normally this would be the goodbye shot, but Brad and Brittany wanted to try some night shots outdoors with us. As we opened the door we noticed we had a window of opportunity (weather-wise). We went out to a green on the Avon Oaks Country Club Golf Course to try something new. When we went out there were still several guests mingling, but friends and family were filtering out. We were able to get a few shots before the downpour began. We ran, me with my arm extended holding my lighting umbrella above Brittany and as much of my equipment as I could. Fortunately, Caroline saved the rest of my equipment. Running to the ballroom as fast as we could, we avoided getting totally drenched. Upon entering, we soon noticed that everyone was gone. So for the first time in my history as a wedding photographer...I gave the bride and groom a ride to the hotel. Yes, it's true. So was it worth it? Going outside and getting drenched for a few shots...

I think it was. And I'm glad to have gotten to know Brittany and Brad. I'm going to see them again tonight actually. They just got back from what I hear was a wonderful trip to Cancun and have decided to do a Trash the Dress shoot without the Trash the Dress part. It's going to be fun and relaxed. I hope to show you those images very shortly.
Blessings to you both. May your marriage always be filled with love.
