Shani and Roger
2010-05-27I grew up in a small town called Seeley Lake, Montana where boys ride bikes on back woods trails and built forts. When I was 14, a couple kids moved in behind my house. There were some woods and a trail between our houses, and before long we were traveling that trail often. Joel and Shani became good friends. When I became reconnected with Joel a couple years ago through facebook, he told me Shani was getting married in Portland. She looked at my work and decided to have me come out and photograph her special day in Portland, Oregon. I nearly went to college in Portland and really like that city. I was excited! I knew it would be a super cool wedding, but I underestimated. It was a great time! Shani and Roger were the perfect combination of romance and humor. We had such a good time together that I think we were two of the last people that left. Here's a preview of their day...
Roger is an artist with wood. He made Shani the most amazing wooden bowl that told the story of their relationship.

Here's a bit of the Romance I spoke of...
And here's a bit of the humor...

The whole event was at the same location in downtown Portland, so we instantly were drawn to this red wall across the street.

We decided to go outside late at night. These were two of my favorites by far. Fortunately we got out of the tracks just in time.
Thank you Roger and Shani for bringing us to Portland. It was such an awesome experience. May your marriage be blessed. I'm really happy I was able to see you and your family again.

Kristy and Mike Married.
2010-05-23I once had a professor remark to another professor that I am one who almost bites off more than he can chew. It might be fair to say that, but I believe the old analogy that just as pressure turns coal into diamonds, so does pressure lead to greater results. Most wedding photographers do not finish editing all of the wedding pictures within a month of the wedding. I do not have statistics on this, but I have gathered that it takes a while for most photographers to edit and post a wedding. At Finest Moments we take all the photographs from the wedding day (from 1,200 to 2,400), delete any unwanted shots, crop them, adjust lighting, and then do touch-ups and creative lighting options. If we only take two minutes on each shot it will take a minimum of 40 hours. This is all before we custom design the album from scratch. The pressure comes in when we give our selves a goal of one week to accomplish this after a wedding. It usually takes two weeks, but it is faster than the industry standard. Why do so you ask? The answer is simple. Wedding photography is not only our livelihood (which causes us to never sacrifice our quality), but it is also our art. And, it being our art, it gives us great pleasure to hear of the joy of our clients when they see our pictures so soon after the wedding day. We know they will have our album to cherish for the rest of their lives, but it is in the time right after the wedding when the honeymoon is not really past that we as photographers are able to share in that joy.
With that, I give you the wedding of Kristy and Mike. I hope all who know them are able to relive their great day through these photographs. And for the wonderful couple, I hope they can experience that day afresh.

Tim and Jessica - Wedded Bliss
2010-05-14I have been pretty excited about putting this wedding on the blog. It is not a stretch to say that I love all the weddings we are able to be a part of, but sometimes (from the photography side) things "just click". Tim and Jessica's wedding was one of those weddings that "just clicked". The lighting (both in and out) was perfect, the bride was almost literally glowing, the groom was visibly full of thanks, the bridal party was fun to be around, and it quit raining and dried up before we began taking any pictures. All in all, it was a delight. I titled this post "Wedded Bliss" partly to be silly, but mainly because I think (as you can see from Jessica's amazing smile in almost every picture) the happiness they share was evident to everyone who was there (and hopefully everyone who views their photos).

Nancy Sage:

Bravo to Finest Moments!

Erin and Tim - A Cleveland Wedding
2010-05-11A little while ago Kristin and I were able to be apart of Erin's (the wonderful bride featured in this blog) sister's wedding day (taking photos of course). It is pretty common for a family member or friend to see our work from one wedding and ask us to be apart of their special day as well. The humorous part about this situation is that no one could recognize me from the previous wedding. I used to sport a pretty huge beard, and now that I am well trimmed it appears that I look a lot different. All funniness aside, Erin and Tim had a wonderful day. The weather was nice and toasty (about as hot as I can remember), yet not overwhelming. Everyone was full of joy. Even though our entire day was wonderful, the highlight for me was when the groom gave a small speech at the reception. He wanted to publicly thank God for helping him through some tough times and especially for giving him such a wonderful wife. This speech did not produce the best photos of the night (they are good though), but it gave everyone there a sense of how much Tim is grateful for his bride. This was a great thing to be a part of.

Kristin set up this next shot, and I am a big fan!

Tim and Erin love their home town - CLEVELAND!

I do not often get to do night shots, so this was a treat. At the end of the evening we went out by the water at Window's on the River and were able to catch all the lights of the city skyline. I am so glad we got to do this.

Sarah and Josh Married!
2010-05-03Sarah and Josh were married last week, and what looked to be an unpleasant day for photographs surprisingly turned out to be a delight. In my five + years of full time shooting weddings, I have never witnessed bad weather ruining a wedding. Inclement weather might put a stumbling block in the way of photographs and all around fun, but the love of the bride and groom, and the excitement of friends and family coming together to celebrate this love, cannot be stopped by rain! All that being said, we were given a window of time after the ceremony with no rain, so Josh, Sarah, and the crew were able to spend some time near the Cleveland Museum of Art goofing around, while Kristin and I snapped some photos. It did sprinkle a bit on us at the end of our shooting, but no one seemed to mind one bit. All in all, the Sarah and Josh had a wonderful day and Kristin and I were happy to be a part of it.

This next shot was my favorite of the day. Josh decided to kiss Sarah on her head (with no help from us). This authentic movement of love is one of the greatest things a wedding photographer can hope to capture when shooting. You can see his care for her and her joy simultaneously. I'm sure this shot alone would allow them to remember how they felt on their wedding day for ages to come.

The building below is the Peter B. Lewis Business building at Case Western Reserve (where Sarah wend to medical school). Although I would never pay 67 million dollars to build a cool background for photographs, I am glad Case did. The building is a unique piece of art, and shooting there is always a privilege.

adam:
