Pass It Along

It was Judah's birthday party on Sunday and this was the view from our back porch.  I looked out the window and was amazed at the color everywhere.  It was a tone that I only half-captured here.  It was amazing.  I spend hours in photoshop trying to recreate the lighting I witnessed that day, and then on top of that there was a perfect rainbow.  One cannot complain about being a photographer when capturing this.

The Grand Canyon at Sundown

Pass It Along

The Grand Canyon is a must-see for every American.  I imagined it to be impressive.  I was amazed by the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, but THE Grand Canyon dwarfs it.  We managed to get there just before sunset.  Unlike many landmarks at State Parks in the East, the Grand Canyon was not roped off or fenced in most areas.  You could freely roam down into a crevice if you wished.  And I did.  I saw a rock bridge that jutted out into the canyon and climbed down and then up.  As I crawled out onto the island mesa I could feel the 330 degrees of straight vertical drop around me.  I thought I had flooded my fear of heights during my days of extreme snowboarding, but this was different.  All I could do was slowly sink to a seated position.  I mustered up some bravery to stand again because I wanted to breath it all in.  It's places like this that really make me feel close to God.  The immensity of this canyon is truly breathtaking.  I wish we would have had a bit more time there, but we did have enough to find a good spot for a few sunset shots.  However, it's also a place that photography cannot do justice to.  I hope to visit again.

Pass It Along

Here are few pictures from our trip to Las Vegas last month.  We decided to take old Route 66 to get to the Grand Canyon, and quickly realized that the movie cars was actually based on the drive we were on, with many details matching precisely.  We came across this really cool old gas station and could help but get the camera's out and wander the property for a while.  Here are a few I liked best.

Pass It Along

As I mentioned earlier, we attended WPPI in Vegas last week for the first time.  It was awesome.  The trade show alone was worth the trip.  I went a little overboard on equipment however.  I don't know how I justified another 5D mark2, a Lowel ID Light, the 1.2 50mm Lseries and a tilt-shift lens (along with a bunch of small stuff).  Once I dropped the coin, Mat and i decided it was time to get away from the glitz and gnawing noise of vegas for some tranquility.  We rented a convertible and headed to the Hoover Dam and then to the Grand Canyon.  Here is an image from the excursion.

This was such a nice getaway after 5 days in Vegas.  The next day we flew home.  Fortunately when I got home, Nelli was super supportive of my maniacal equipment splurge.  She also managed to whip up an image to display on my big monitor.  She thought of it just before I touched down and managed to whip it up fast.  Pretty impressive.  Good to be home and can't wait for an awesome 2010 behind the camera. destination wedding photographer

Well, I will justify you getting that new equipment! :) I am super excited to try the new 1.2 50mm and the tilt shift!

Pass It Along

Here is the Old Faithful, the famous geyser of Yellowstone.  It's amazing the crowd that lines up to see this erupt.  Like everything in Yellowstone, it's larger than you expect.  See those black dots in the background.  Those are people.  I decided to go infrared on this shot, because it's the only type of shot that I haven't seen of Old Faithful.  This landmark has probably been photographed more than any other in the U.S., but that's open for debate:)infrared bw of old faithful the geyserHere are 2 more shots from our roadtrip through Yellowstone National Park.  This is The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.  It is amazing; so steep and vast that you get that weird feeling in your stomach when you get close to the edge.   grand canyon of yellowstone

This is a great picture. It made me feel like I was right there on that mountain. I had a pazzle that was from that area, but this pucture is much better. Thanks for sharing it.
